'Loud Noises' Prompt Police Investigation At 59th Street-Lexington Avenue Subway Station

October 17, 2018 - 9:47 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Police and subway personnel responded to the 59th Street and Lexington Avenue subway station after two loud noises were reported Wednesday morning.

One person tweeted just after 9 a.m. that he heard "two loud explosions" on a northbound 6 train as it was leaving the station and the "entire platform scampered."

The NYPD confirms a "mechanical issue" led to the "loud electrical 'bangs' beneath the train."

The investigation briefly disrupted subway service during the morning rush.

Service resumed on the 6 train around 9:40 a.m. with delays.
