STAMFORD, Conn. (WCBS 880)  — A man whose identity has yet to be released by local authorities, allegedly fired several shots at Stamford police officers Tuesday afternoon during an attempted drug bust on Seaton Road officials say.

Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin said the man was in a greenish Toyota sedan with another person when officers arrived and surrounded the vehicle.

As officers got out of their cars and approached the suspect, he allegedly shot at them from just a few feet away.

Once out of bullets, the suspect laid down low in the car seat, initially leading officers to believe he had fled, the Stamford Advocate reports.

Police soon discovered him in the car and arrested him and the second person inside the vehicle.

No officers were injured by the gunshots.

A stolen .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver gun was recovered by officers officials said.

Police found a what they describe as a large amount of either heroin or fentanyl in the car, Conklin said, as well as some crack cocaine and marijuana.

The guan now faces charges related to carrying a stolen weapon, trafficking narcotics and possibly the attempted murder of a police officer.
