NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- An arrest has been made in a violent mugging of an 87-year-old professor on the Upper West Side.

Matthew Lee, 50, was arrested Wednesday night on assault and robbery charges.

Police said the victim was attacked as he was getting money out of an ATM inside a Citibank on West 96th Street and Broadway last Sunday.

Surveillance video shows the victim standing in front of the ATM when the suspect rushes up behind him. They are seen struggling before the suspect drags the victim out of the frame.

Police said the suspect punched the victim in the back of the head and then took off with his money.

The victim is in critical condition and may be brain dead.

CBS2 reports that when Lee was asked if he did it he responded, "I don't remember."
