MERRICK, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Police say they've arrested a Long Island man in the death of his lover, who was found stabbed more than 100 times at his home in Merrick earlier this month.

Ryan Lindquist, a 21-year-old from Massapequa, was arrested Friday and charged Saturday with second-degree murder and ordered held without bail.

Police say he was in a relationship with 32-year-old Evan Grabelsky, who is being remembered as a camp counselor and teacher's aide who gave his heart to helping people with special needs.\

The two men were having a date at Grabelsky's home near Elliott Street and Frankel Boulevard on the night of June 1 when things took a horrific turn.

"They had met at the house to have a social arrangement," Nassau Police Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said. "During that time together at the house during the date, something happened where Ryan stabbed Mr. Grabelsky over 100 times."

Grabelsky's parents were out at a party that night and returned home to find their son mortally stabbed just inside the front door.

Grabelsky and Lindquist had met on a dating app two years ago and had been in a romantic relationship ever since, police say.

Police say they were led to Lindquist by surveillance video, as well as text messages and evidence at the scene.

Police are continuing to investigate a motive behind the attack and are treating it as a domestic incident.
