August 07, 2019 - 9:14 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Police in Central park are investigating the dead of a man discovered Tuesday at Lasker Pool in Harlem.

Authorities say a Hispanic man in his 30s was discovered under a blanket by camp counselors just after 10 a.m. within the guarded gates if the pool on an observation desk.

EMS pronounced him dead at the scene and the pool remained open Tuesday despite the finding, however, many were shocked t learn about the news.

“I'm literally going, ‘How did this happen,’” said the Reverend Matthew Bucari, who fished daily at a nearby body of water.

He notes he’s mostly shocked considering police suspect foul play may have been involved in the man’s death.

“I work on 109th Street and Fifth Avenue and I have developed some strong relationships with the people who have lived around this neighborhood for decades and they have even recognized that the crime has dropped significantly in the last decades,” he told WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond.

Authorities say the victim had laceration on his neck and severe bruising on his face. They say he was possibly attacked where his body was found.

A cause of death has yet to be determined and the investigation remains ongoing.
