August 26, 2018 - 1:12 pm

DIX HILLS, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A man was shot during a party in an upscale neighborhood on Long Island Saturday night.

Suffolk County police said the 34-year-old man was shot at around 10:30 p.m. in Dix Hills after an argument broke out at the event attended by about 400 people.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the victim was a tenant at the home on Langhans Court, where the average home costs more than $1 million.

“I thought fireworks were going off,” another renter said. “I came outside to have a cigarette and then back inside.”

The homeowner was later arrested and charged with criminal nuisance. Two other men were charged with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.

Authorities said a large crowd of people were fighting when cops arrived and other officers from nearby precincts had to be called in for assistance.

Though, the shooting did not disrupt the event completely and some partygoers remained at the home until 5 a.m. Sunday.
