Man Threatens Bay Ridge Church Due To LGBT Flag

April 19, 2019 - 8:02 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — The behavior was certainly not in keeping with the spirit of Good Friday when Christians are supposed to feel compassion.

An angry man on Wednesday left a ranting voicemail threatening harm to the Union Presbyterian Church in Bay Ridge.

He is opposed to a small LGBT rainbow flag in an enclosed bulletin board outside of a church.

He threatened to use a crowbar to remove it.

The pastor, Bob Anderle, tells the Daily News he might just be blowing hot air, but they need to take it seriously.

Anderle said, "You almost immediately begin to say, I feel for this guy, what's his story, he's clearly swimming in resentment and anger and bigotry that's unresolved and is sort of holding him hostage at any given moment, and the impulse becomes, God please help him."

The rainbow flag is still in place and rainbow ribbons adorn the fence.

Surveillance cameras keep watch and the NYPD is on the case.
