Mayor To Completely Remove Processed Meat From City Controlled Agencies, School Menus

April 25, 2019 - 10:22 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio plans to completely remove processed meat, like hot dogs, on school menus and at city-controlled agencies such as hospitals and jails.

"I like a good burger as much as the next guy. But our nyc school students demanded meatless mondays." de Blasio said.

He says livestock farming produces 20 to 50 percent of greenhouse gas emissions.

"More vegetables, more fruits, more meatless options. Good for everyone. Good for the earth too." de Blasio adds.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams loves this idea.

Adams, who is a vegan, says the city is overconsuming meat.
