Mega Millions Jackpot Climbs To Whopping $667 Million Ahead Of Drawing

October 16, 2018 - 12:36 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Almost $1 billion in prize money could await some lucky lottery players with tickets for the Mega Millions and Powerball games.

After nearly three months without a winner, the Mega Millions lottery game has climbed to an estimated $667 million jackpot for Tuesday night’s drawing.

Unfortunately, even as the big prize for Tuesday night's drawing increases to the third-largest in U.S. lottery jackpot history, the odds of matching all six numbers and winning the game don't improve.

Your odds of winning the largest jackpot in Mega Millions history are stuck at one in 302.5 million.

Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot up for grabs Wednesday night will be a cool $345 million, with a cash value of $199 million.

The last time anyone won the Mega jackpot was July 24, when a group from California claimed a $543 million prize.

The previous record jackpot in Mega Millions history was a $656 million prize that was shared by winners from Kansas, Illinois and Maryland in March 2012.

The largest Powerball jackpot was $1.586 billion, which was shared by winners in California, Florida and Tennessee in January 2016.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
