Megyn Kelly's NBC Days May Be Numbered After Blackface Backlash

October 25, 2018 - 1:16 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880/AP) — Megyn Kelly was absent from her NBC morning show with questions swirling about whether her time at the network is coming to an end following this week's controversy over her comments about blackface.

The Wall Street Journal says NBC is ready to pull the plug, following her comments this week questioning why using blackface for a Halloween costume was necessarily racist or insensitive.

During a segment on Halloween costumes on Tuesday, Kelly said dressing in blackface was acceptable when she was a kid if portraying a character, and expressed sympathy for a character in "Real Wives of New York" who darkened her face for a Diana Ross costume.

An NBC spokeswoman said Thursday that "given the circumstances," the network was airing repeats of "Megyn Kelly Today" Thursday and Friday.

She apologized later in the day and on her show Wednesday, but there are published reports that her time at NBC could end soon. NBC didn't comment on those reports Thursday.

No live shows are planned for the rest of the week, and a replacement could be ready to go Monday.

Several reports say NBC is dumping Kelly and her lawyer is scheduled to meet with network executives Friday to discuss the terms of her departure.
