Mets Fans Will No Longer Be Able To Bring Backpacks To Citi Field

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — If you’re thinking about bringing a backpack to Citi Field, you may want to reconsider.

Beginning May 20, backpacks and other large containers will be banned from entering the stadium.

The team said Friday that the move will be to enhance safety.

“For the safety of all guests and to make entering @CitiField more efficient, we have updated our bag policy, which will go into effect on Monday, May 20 and will prohibit backpacks at the ballpark,” the team wrote on Twitter.

Fans can still bring purses, drawsting backpacks and soft-sided coolers that do not exceed 16-by-16-by-8 inches.

The Mets follow in the footsteps of the Washington Nationals who banned backpacks from home games just before the start of the 2019 season.
