JERSEY CITY (WCBS 880) – A newborn was found dead near her lifeless mother in delipidated home full of maggots and feces.

The little girl and her 41-year-old mom were discovered in the home on Suburbia Court around 6 a.m. Saturday, prosecutors said.

The baby was pronounced dead at the scene, while the mother was pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center shortly before 5 p.m., according to prosecutors.

The causes of their death are under investigation by the medical examiner.

Neighbors have said squatters and drug addicts were living in the home and that it was infested with bugs and varmint.

The city had issued health, housing and building code violations in 2019.

Neighbors have said the home was kept up before its owners died years ago, then it fell into disrepair.

The owner’s some William Kelly claimed that the home is no longer his responsibility because the bank owns it, but records say his parents still own it.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating.
