NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A mother and her 2-month-old baby were hospitalized Wednesday evening, after the woman jumped with the child in front of a subway train in the Bronx.

The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the 149th Street and Grand Concourse stop, serving the No. 2, 4, and 5 trains.

They landed in the middle of the track, between the rails. The train then passed over them.

Transit worker Joe Costales said the train operator watched it all unfold.

“The train operator seen them jump,” Costales said. “They see them run down the platform and pass the train and jump in front of the train.”

Both the mother and the baby are expected to recover. The mother is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.

Police told CBS2 the mother would be arrested and charged.
