MTA Board Member Proposes Publicly Shaming Fare Beaters

June 24, 2019 - 3:44 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — An MTA board member on Monday proposed publicly shaming individuals who skip the fare on buses and subways.

Newly appointed board member Sarah Feninberg suggested capturing the behavior on cameras and posting the images publicly.

The New York Post reports her saying, “When people are publicly embarrassed by this kind of behavior, it helps address it.”

She says the crackdown on fare evasion and transit violence has been “a long time coming.”

There’s no work as to whether the MTA might actually adopt the proposal.
