MTA Rolls Out New, Longer 'Stand Clear' Message

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The MTA is updating its message to riders when it asks them to "stand clear of the closing doors."

The message had been recently shortened to just "stand clear."

But now it's being expanded again, along with an apology to riders for any delays.

Conductors are now instructed to say, "Please stay away from the doors so we can close them safely. We apologize for the crowded train, but another train will be here soon."

The New York Post says the communications guidebook which is being updated for the first time in three decades also tells conductors to "never sound aggressive, frustrated or bored" and that “these announcements may be routine to you, but they’re important to our customers.”
