MTA, Transit President Vow To Speed Up City Buses

June 10, 2019 - 6:01 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday announced the formation of a Better Buses Advisory group to help speed up the city's slowest bus routes.

As WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond reported, Transit President Andy Byford and Department of Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg also went along with members of the advisory group to see the challenges on the notorious slow and overcrowded B35 bus along Church Avenue.

“The route suffers from challenges, we know bus routes all over the city are having double parking, truck loading, which I saw this morning, long traffic queues. A lot of people trying to get on the bus,” Byford noted.

The mayor's goal is to increase bus speed citywide by 25% by the end of 2020.

Byford says the MTA is on board and riders will soon notice improvements.
