AMITYVILLE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Three people are dead after a head-on car crash in Suffolk County early Sunday.

Police say Alex Demetrius was driving a 2003 BMW X5 eastbound on Oak Street at around 12:30 a.m. when his vehicle entered the westbound lane and struck a 2017 Toyota Corolla.

Demetrius, 27, of Nesconset and the driver of the Toyota, Joseph Cloonan, 65, and Cloonan’s son and only passenger, John Cloonan, 34, both of Staten Island, were pronounced dead at the scene.

“It brought me right up out of bed,” one resident said. “It was bad. Really bad. The front of the car was totally gone.”

The speed limit posted in the area is 30-miles-per-hour. Though, the neighbor said many people typically speed down the road.

Police are continuing the investigation.
