Murder Rates On The Rise In Suffolk County

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Homicides in Suffolk County are on the rise, according to new statistics.

The county has recorded 21 homicides for 2019 – the same number for all of 2018 – putting the area on track to surpass last year’s total number of murders.

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart did stress that nine of the murders were domestic related, including three murder-suicides.

She also notes that while homicides are up 17% this year, violent crimes and property crimes have dropped by 4.6% this year compared to last.

Police have also executed more search warrants in 2019, seizing 158 illegal weapons and $1.5 million worth of illegal drugs.
