Pelosi To Trump On Immigration Policy: ‘You’re Scaring The Children’

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared in Queens Monday morning for a panel discussion on Immigration.

Pelosi was at Elmhurst Hospital Center, as part of her “Speaker in the House” series, and discussed ways to improve the immigration process ahead of next year’s census with Congresswoman Grace Meng.

At the panel discussion she also noted that she spoke with President Donald Trump Friday, imploring him not to send Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents throughout the country to round up immigrant families.

“I said, ‘look, I’m a mom, I have five kids, nine grandchild and children are scared. You’re scaring the children of America – not just in those families but their neighbors and their communities. You’re scaring the children,’” Pelosi said.

The house speaker urged the mostly immigrant audience to know their rights and become informed about the issues.

“I would just say that unless (ICE agents) have a warrant, they have no business coming in to your home to search,” Pelosi advised.

Trump has since backed down on the threat but have given Democrats and Republicans just two weeks to reach an agreement on immigration policies.

The president is asking for a change in asylum laws to end what he has called a crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.
