PARAMUS, N.J. (WCBS 880) — One New Jersey high school sounded more like a jazz club Monday night when Gov. Phil Murphy came to visit.

Paramus High School’s student body got a unique chance to show off what they’ve learned in their arts classes to state lawmakers who fought for the programs.

Students broke out instruments, original artworks and more as Murphy announced the state had reached a major milestone.

“New Jersey has reached a milestone of 100% of our public schools offering arts programs,” the governor said.

As WCBS 880’s Kevin Rincon, that’s a grade no other state in the country has been able to obtain.

“That's an incredible achievement that I know the state and our schools have worked very hard to accomplish,” Murphy added.

The Democrat says arts, whether it be music, dance or drama, can help students well beyond the classroom level.
