WARREN, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- A New Jersey doctor has admitted to writing bogus opioid prescriptions to funnel tens of thousands of pills to a drug ring.

George Beecher ran a medical practice in Warren before he was arrested along with several other alleged drug ring members in December 2015.

The 77-year-old admitted to writing the oxycodone prescriptions in the names of people he'd never examined or even met, the state attorney general’s office says.

Beecher pleaded guilty to conspiracy and drug distribution Wednesday and faces up to 10 years in state prison when he’s sentenced in November. He also must permanently surrender his medical license.
