HOWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (WCBS 880) — A New Jersey woman had quite the scare while driving to work Monday morning.

“I was on my way to work, and I was five minute in to my commute, when the next thing I know, I see a deer in my window,” said Melissa Misthal, of Howell.

Misthal tried to avoid the deer but the animal came crashing through the front window of her 2004 Toyota RAV4.

“It was bizarre. I was shocked that it was really in my car,” Misthal told WCBS 880.

The force of the impact destroyed the windshield and part of the roof. The deer landed in the passenger seat but fell into the back seat, deceased.

“Once the deer made contact, I don’t know what happened. I definitely was awake and conscious, but I don’t know how it got into my car and it did end up in the back seat,” Misthal explained.

She suffered some minor injuries, and without knowing if the deer was alive or not, was able to safely pull her car off to the shoulder of the road.

Misthal said other drivers pulled over to help her and she was treated for lacerations to her face, but she’s cautioning other drivers to be careful.

“The deer are out there and you know, you see them and you’re like ‘ah, you now, big deal’ but, something like this can happen to anyone,” she said. “I can’t believe it happened to me today, but I’m happy I’m okay.”
