NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Soccer enthusiasts are fanning out all over New York City after France won the 2018 FIFA World Cup Sunday.

The showdown in Moscow between Croatia and France ended just after 12 p.m. and French soccer fans erupted in applause throughout Midtown.

WCBS 880’s Mike Sugerman found a huge crowd packed into Rockefeller Center, where bleachers were set up for viewers to watch via the Spanish-language TV channel Telemundo Deportes.

The crowd went wild when France was crowned the winner, and applause reached all the way to 60th Street, where there is a Bastille Celebration happening between Lexington and Fifth Avenues.

The French Institute Alliance Francaise screened the final match at the celebration and various French restaurants and bars also were packed with viewers.

Traffic delays are expected as fans celebrate France’s second ever World Cup title. The country previously won the title in 1998, after beating out Brazil.
