NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Nearly 17 years after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, another victim has been identified.

As WCBS 880’s Peter Haskell reported, 1,642 victims have now been identified in all.

Scott Johnson was 26 years old when he was killed. He worked for an investment bank on the 89th floor of Tower 2.

The New York City Medical Examiner’s office was able to make the identification with a bone fragment.

Mark Desire works in the lab.

“This particular sample was attempted many times, and we were finally able to, because of the advancements, able to make a comparison, because we now have the DNA,” Desire said.

There are still more than 7,400 unidentified remains. Desire said they are not giving up.

“How do we advance forensic science, specifically to make these World Trade Center identifications?” he said.

Forty percent of the victims have yet to be identified.
