RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A man walking his dog near a Long Island Rail Road station found more than two dozen domestic rabbits this past weekend.

The man made the discovery Sunday morning near the Ronkonkoma LIRR station, according to the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

One of the 27 rabbits was dead, and several others had been caked in feces when they were found, the SCPA said.

The rabbits may have belonged to a breeder, the SPCA said. They cannot survive in the wild.

A $3,500 reward is now being offered for any information that could lead the SPCA to whoever abandoned the rabbits.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Suffolk County SPCA at (631) 382-7722.
