NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Nassau County police are investigating the homicide of a young mother found dead in her South Farmingdale home.

Officers responding to a 911 call for a female not breathing found Kelly Owen, 27, strangled in her bed on Wednesday afternoon.

The medical examiner has determined the cause of death was asphyxiation.

Owen was a nursing student and mother of a 6-year-old girl.

Police say there was no evidence of a break-in at the one-story home on First Avenue, where Owen lived with her daughter, parents and brother.

"There was no forced entry into the house, who actually entered the house is under investigation," Nassau County Police Detective Christopher Barling told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

Newsday reports Owen's parents found her when they noticed her car was still in the driveway at a time when she's normally at her daughter's school.

So far, no suspects have been identified.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
