3 Injured In Washington Heights Apartment Building Fire

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Three people were injured Sunday when a fire broke out in a Washington Heights apartment building.

The fire broke out around noon in a second-floor unit of a six-story building on 163rd Street close to Broadway, the New York Post reported.

The FDNY told WCBS 880 that one civilian was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in serious, but stable, condition.

Two firefighters were also injured – one was also left in serious, but stable, condition, while the other suffered minor injuries, the FDNY told WCBS 880.

They were both taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center just a few blocks from the scene.

The Post reported some residents climbed down the fire escape to safety, and neighbors passed young children down the ladders.
