FREEPORT, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Three people were killed early Friday when a vehicle went out of control and flipped over multiple times on the Meadowbrook State Parkway on Long Island.

New York State Police Maj. David Candelaria said a Chevrolet Trailblazer was headed south on the parkway south of Exit M9 in Freeport. Witnesses said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, Candelaria said.

The driver lost control and the vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest on the shoulder in a marsh, Candelaria said.

There were 10 people in the car, Candelaria said. Three people were confirmed dead.

The victims who were killed were all teenagers and were ejected, Candelaria said. Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and the third at an area hospital, Candelaria said.

The other six teens in the vehicle had non-life-threatening injuries, Candelaria said. There was also an 8-month-old infant in the vehicle who survived, Candelaria said.

The vehicle had been reported stolen from Roosevelt, Long Island, Candelaria said. Police believe the driver was a 15-year-old girl.

The teens in the vehicle were from the Uniondale area, Candelaria said.

The vehicle has three rows of seats inside, but authorities said it does not fit 10 people safely, WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall reported.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation was investigating the crash Friday afternoon, along with the Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Forensic Identification Unit, and the Nassau County police and District Attorney’s office, Candelaria said.
