NEW YORK (WCBS 880) --Police said a man who was caught on video punching and kicking another man in an unprovoked attack inside an elevator in the Bronx is now in custody.

Surveillance video released by the NYPD shows the suspect and the 67-year-old victim getting into a elevator around 11 p.m. Friday at a building on Southern Boulevard and 187th Street in the Belmont section of the borough.

As the doors open and the victim tried to walk out of the elevator, the suspect suddenly snapped and started punching him in the face.

The victim had trouble fighting back because his arm was in cast. He fell to the floor and the suspect took off, but not before using his sleeve to apparently wipe off fingerprints from the sides of the elevator.

The victim suffered lacerations to his face and was treated at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center.

Police say the suspect took off in a dark-colored minivan.
