Police: Amtrak Train Destroys Car Left on Tracks by Drunk Driver

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Police say an Amtrak train smashed into a car left on the tracks by a drunk driver in New Jersey on Tuesday night, destroying the car.

Just before midnight on Tuesday night, police were informed that Amna Ahmed had left her Toyota Camry on the tracks in West Windsor.

Police had arrived on the scene and started making calls to stop train traffic when Amtrak Train #639 approached. Ahmed, the police officers and others at the scene took cover as the train approached.

No one was injured. Surrounding cars suffered damage from flying debris, while the train sustained damage to several cars.

Ahmed was issued summonses for reckless driving and DWI.

Train traffic was disrupted for approximately three hours.
