Awning Collapse Leaves Woman Trapped In N.J. Strip Mall

July 03, 2018 - 7:24 pm

RIVER EDGE, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- The damage could have been a lot worse from an awning collapse at a strip mall in River Edge, New Jersey Tuesday morning.

No injuries were reported in the incident. But a woman working in the National Artifacts store of the mall building at 474 Kinderkamack Rd. was trapped inside the store by falling debris, and several parked cars outside were crushed.

The employee, Courtney Lichtenberger, said she could not get out. She was worried the roof was going to be coming down on her.

First responders moved bricks to get her out of the shop.

There was no word late Tuesday on what caused the collapse.
