NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A Brooklyn furniture maker is hoping to strike it rich with some spare furniture.

If those sound like bowling terms, that's because his stuff is made out of old bowling lanes.

"Ten or eleven years ago I found some reclaimed bowling lanes that I wanted to turn into a counter for my kitchen on the Lower East Side," said Jim Malone, who has since turned that idea into a booming business.

The company is called CounterEV, short for Counter Evolution.

Our eye catching Manhattan Dining Table is an in-store customer favorite! It's constructed entirely out of reclaimed bowling lane heart pine and handcrafted by our master wood workers at our Kingston, NY factory! Available in any of our environmentally friendly hand rubbed stains and an array of leg styles, we are POSITIVE there's a Manhattan size and color that fits in everyone's home! #CounterEv #jointheevolution #sustainabledesign #downtownbk #citypointbk #madegreen #madeinNY #madetoorder #shoplocal #city #downtownbrooklyn #localbusiness #shopsmall #supportlocalbusiness #madegreen #recycledmaterials #savethetrees #indoorairquality #interiordesign #interiordesigninspo #homeideas #homewares

The furniture is made in upstate New York and then sold in his Brooklyn store.

"As we've grown over the years we've just continued to find an abundance of available lanes from centers that were closing down for whatever reason," Malone said. "We love the back story and novelty and the sustainability of reclaiming bowling lanes, but we're really about design, and build, and qualty."

For Brooklyn's Sarah Joy Madsen, bowling is in her blood. Her father is a champion back in Nebraska and she herself is an avid bowler. So her CounterEV coffee table was the perfect fit for her home.

"It's cool looking, whenever anybody comes over they're like, 'What the hell is that,'" Madsen said.

Did you know we make all of the tables for Shake Shack? We also use the exact same commercial grade, eco-friendly stains on all of our beautiful, reclaimed wood furniture pieces! The likelihood of you recreating the traffic one of our Shake Shack tables goes through is, well, unlikely? But even if you somehow manage to, you can be confident at the level of durability we seal into every piece of furniture we make! #CounterEv #jointheevolution #sustainabledesign #noVOCs #greendesign #builttolast #sustainability #shakeshack #greeninteriors #reclaimedwood

But you don't need bowling lanes in your veins to appreciate the smooth, shiny lumber those balls roll on.

If you've been to a ShakeShack lately, then you've seen a CounterEV table. They're among the company's biggest customers.
