Car Hits Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Train In Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service was suspended Sunday afternoon after a car hit a train in Jersey City.

At 12:50 p.m., the car hit the train at Essex and Van Vorst streets, according to NJ TRANSIT.

There were no passengers on the light rail train and the crew was uninjured, NJ TRANSIT said.

A woman driving the car was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, NJ TRANSIT said. She suffered unspecified leg issues.

A Twitter photo showed a mangled, demolished car next to a train.

NJ TRANSIT police, along with Jersey City EMS and fire personnel, were dispatched to the scene.

Service was suspended for about two hours before resuming around 2:45 p.m.
