NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A mother who had her baby ripped from her arms by police during an arrest captured on video has reached a settlement with the city.

Jazmine Headley, 24, will receive $625,000 from the city after viral video showed NYPD officers prying her 17-month-old son from her arms while attempting to arrest her last December.

Her arrest was captured on video and sparked citywide outrage when officers were seen prying a child from Headley’s arms after she refused to leave a SNAP benefits center.

Police were called when she told a guard she would not leave a SNAP benefits center after being asked to go for sitting on the floor of a waiting room.

Headley filed a lawsuit in August, claiming the infant that was ripped from her arms suffered physical, mental and other injuries.

She was charged with resisting arrest and obstruction, but those charges were later dropped.

The city has since made changes to its public benefits system including training staff in de-escalation techniques and requiring peace officers to wear body cameras.
