PARAMUS, N.J. (WCBS 880) — Christmas has come and gone, but shoppers are still turning out in droves at shopping malls across the Tri-State.

As WCBS 880’s Peter Haskell reports, dozens of people showed up to the Garden State Plaza on Thursday with plenty of shopping bags in tow – all trying to score some last minute deals and return gifts that might have fallen short.

“I'm returning this sweater that I don't like and my mom wants to buy some additional gifts,” one woman said.

She told Haskell that the day after Christmas is “absolutely” a good day to shop.

Usually, if I see a good deal, the problem is I’m buying too much for myself so – I got three closets, I don't need anymore – but I can't help myself,” she said.

Katy Lapi says she will also be out on Thursday to shop for herself now that the stress of the holidays have passed.

“It is fun cause now that Christmas is over, all the cooking, all the cleaning up – so, I came out bright and early,” she said.

Some shoppers can expect to find deals of up to 50% off, or more, the day after the holiday.

According to online retail platform Oracle, about 77% of consumers plan to use the day after Christmas to return some of their holiday gifts.
