MINEOLA, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A contractor is accused of stealing more than $110,000 from a Mineola church that hired him to build a new sanctuary.

Authorities said Gennaro Festa, 72, of Freeport spent the money he got from Grace International Assembly of God on food and gas.

The money was supposed to be spent on steel for the project.

Prosecutors said they contacted the steel supplier and found out the steel was never ordered.

Festa has pleaded not guilty. A judge released him with no bail.
