NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A designated driver is just round the corner this Fourth of July.

As WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond reported Monday, they say nothing in life is free. But Curb, Lyft, and Via, are all offering $10 off any ride from Monday through Sunday.

Department of Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg said it is part of their “Know Your Limit” campaign.

“If you’re out, you’ve had something to drink, don’t get behind the wheel,” Trottenberg said. “We’ll help you find a really easy and inexpensive way to get home.”

Another reason not to drink and drive is NYPD checkpoints that will be set up in all five boroughs.

“And as always, there’ll be zero tolerance in our enforcement of this dangerous behavior,” said NYPD Transportation Chief Thomas Chan.

DOT data showed that in the six weeks between Memorial Day and July 4, the rate of fatal, alcohol-involved crashes increased by 55 percent.
