Cynthia Nixon Says She'd Take Aim At 'Antiquated' Voting Rules

July 11, 2018 - 8:34 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Democratic primary challenger, Cynthia Nixon, is taking aim at what she calls New York's antiquated voting rules.

If elected, the "Sex and the City" star and political activist promises to work to streamline the voter registration process, institute advance voting, and ease restrictive deadlines to change party affiliation.

New York is one of only 13 states without early voting.

Enrollment deadlines mean voters have to decide months in advance in order to participate in a primary election.

Nixon blamed Gov. Cuomo for failing to upgrade the system.

A Cuomo campaign spokeswoman said the governor is focused on electing more Democratic lawmakers to get the reforms passed.
