Dispute Persists Over Road Access In Leonia, N.J.

LEONIA, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- The dispute over access to roads in Leonia, New Jersey is not over.

As WCBS 880’s Steve Burns reported, attorney Jacqueline Rosa thought everything was settled back in August.

"I thought that the judge was explicitly clear at the hearing and I thought that they were going to back down," she said.

But she contends that is not what Leonia has done in its battle to restrict traffic on its roads during rush hour, as it looks to keep out people taking shortcuts around the George Washington Bridge.

Rosa and the state Attorney General’s office have filed motions contending Leonia is flat out ignoring the judge’s ruling.

"Essentially, it's the same exact ordinance," Rosa said.

Leonia Mayor Judah Ziegler maintains the borough can still restrict traffic on certain roads as long as those roads do not touch a state highway.

Rosa called that “a complete misinterpretation of what the judge said."

Ziegler told NorthJersey.com he is obeying the ruling, and the AG’s office is just looking for a do-over. The judge is set to look at the new motions next week.
