DOT Worker Accidentally Runs Over Coworker On Upper East Side

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A city Department of Transportation worker is dead following a tragic accident on the Upper East Side.

The 44-year-old victim was accidentally struck and killed by a DOT dump truck on East 88th Street near Gracie Mansion where crews were repaving the road around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said his 35-year-old coworker backed up the truck and accidentally ran over the victim, who was standing behind the vehicle.

The victim, identified as Eduardo Calleabril of Queens, was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver was taken by police for questioning, but the NYPD said criminality is not suspected.

The investigation remains ongoing.
