NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is putting all his eggs in the Super Tuesday basket as he skips early primary states.

He's using his massive wealth to get voters' attention as the Democratic presidential field narrows and it appears he's definitely gotten the attention of President Donald Trump.

With Twitter references to Bloomberg as "Mini Mike," it seems the president is concerned, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported. The long-standing rivalry is about wealth and power.

"It's competition for Donald Trump, probably about domination of New York," said political consultant Hank Sheinkopf, who thinks Bloomberg has a real shot at the nomination. "Frankly, if he starts picking up momentum with the money and staff and the other things he has going for him that money buys, it's gonna be tough to get past him."

But Lee Miringoff, at the Marist Poll, sees a couple of complicated factors.

"I think it's getting harder when you get the kind of enthusiasm that is occurring and the shrinking of the field that is occurring right now. These candidates, who have the support of voters," he told Haskell.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg is swamping the other Democrats with his spending.
