NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- There was a scary moment for more than 200 passengers aboard a Delta jet Monday evening, after the flight crew had to abort a takeoff at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The incident happened around 7:25 p.m.  on Delta Flight 420, officials said.

The airline said the brakes on the Boeing 763 overheated. The Federal Aviation Administration said the result was a fire in the main landing gear.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the fire. The passengers deplaned using the air stairs.

No one was injured. The FAA will investigate.
