NEW YORK (WCBS 880) --  The death of a Florida tourist in Queens is now a homicide investigation.

Jamill Jones, 35 – a Wake Forest University assistant basketball coach – has pleaded not guilty to assault charges after he allegedly clocked Sandor Szabo, also 35, in the face in Long Island City.

Szabo, who was in town for a wedding, died after he fell and hit his head on the pavement.

Police said Szabo had been knocking on car windows looking for his Uber driver. Szabo banged on Jones’ window, and Jones got out, followed Szabo to the sidewalk, punched him, and drove off, police said.

Jones’ attorney called it all a tragic accident. But Szabo’s parents told the Today Show that Jones’ apology comes too late.

Wake Forest has placed Jones on leave.
