ALBANY, N.Y. (WCBS 880/AP) -- A former employee of the New York state Department of Transportation, who oversaw a $10 million project, is now facing charges.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Albany said Jerome Lauzon of Saratoga County is accused of stealing thousands of dollars in federal funds.

Lauzon, 44, is charged with misappropriating at least $5,000 from a federally funded program.

Prosecutors said Lauzon was the engineer in charge of a road reconstruction project in Washington County for five-year span that ended last year.

Investigators said the project's contractor bought goods and services for Lauzon's personal use and Lauzon reimbursed the company using project funds.

Lauzon pleaded not guilty and his lawyer says he will fight the charges.
