Girls Say They Were Groped At L.I. Water Park, Situation Was Mishandled

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Four young ladies said they were groped and harassed while at Splish Splash Water Park on Long Island, and the girls’ parents said the way the situation was handled was awful.

“All I wanted to do was get to her. I just wanted to get to her and wrap my arms around her,” said the mother of one of the girls.

The four young ladies went to the Riverhead water park with the Huntington YMCA summer camp last week. The girls – ages 11, 12, and 13 – said they were groped and harassed by five men.

But police were never called, and the men were allowed to leave the park. The parents of the girls say they worry somebody else will be attacked.

“In letting these men go without taking names, Splish Splash has all but guaranteed that this will occur again at their facilities, and they do not care,” a mother said.

The attorney for the parents, Christopher Cassar, is asking anyone with information on the case to come forward to police. One of the mothers said it has been a nightmare for her 12-year-old daughter.

“The one man that groped my daughter’s breast did not let go until she physically had to remove his hand,” she said.

The YMCA in a statement said, "The safety of the youth we serve is always our highest priority. The YMCA of Long Island remains wholly committed to working with law enforcement and will continue to cooperate throughout the ongoing investigation."

Splish Splash said they take "safety very seriously."

"We are aware of the incident and are working with the Riverhead Police Department," the park said in a statement to WCBS Newsradio 880.

Hall has reached out to the Riverhead Police Department for comment.
