NYPD Inspector Killed In Bronx Motorcycle Crash

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- An NYPD inspector was killed in a motorcycle crash in the Bronx on Monday morning.

The victim collided with a dump truck while riding his motorcycle at East Tremont Avenue and Waterbury Avenue around 8 a.m.

Police sources have identified the victim as 56-year-old Michael McGrath, the commanding officer of the NYPD Cadet Corps, which trains college students to become officers after they graduate.

McGrath was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, but later died.

He was off-duty at the time of the crash.

Chief of Department Terence Monahan called it "a sad day for New York's Finest."

No charges have been filed.
