HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — The Town of Hempstead is collecting supplies for those affected by the devastating earthquakes in Puerto Rico.

No donation is too small, reports WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall.

Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin says his office will be collecting supplies for those devastated by debilitating natural disasters.

“Here in the Town of Hempstead, we're saying we're here to help,” he said. “We are joining together as a unified town board and we are starting the ability now for people to bring supplies that are going to be transported down to Puerto Rico for those in need.”

He says among some of the most needed items are water, cleaning supplies, diapers, baby food, garbage bags and pillows.

“There are one million Puerto Ricans who live in New York and we want to help,” Clavin said. “We're going to give people the ability.”

The town will be collecting the donations through Jan. 31.

Items can be dropped off at Hempstead Town Hall, Echo Park in West Hempstead, Town of Hempstead Receiver of Taxes office and Levittown Hall in Hicksville.
