BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WCBS 880) — The estranged husband of a Connecticut mother of five who has been missing since last May has been charged with murder in her disappearance, his lawyer said.

He is being held on $6 million bond on felony murder and kidnapping charges.

His girlfriend, 44-year-old Michelle Troconis, was also was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Her bond was set at $2 million.

Kent Mawhinney, an attorney who represented Fotis Dulos in previous civil cases, is also charged with conspiracy to commit murder. His bond was also set at $2 million.

Citing a gag order, police officials did not provide more details in the case during an afternoon press conference.

Jennifer Dulos, 50, was last seen on May 24 when she dropped her five children off at their school in New Canaan. Her body has not been found.

Her family in a statement Tuesday thanked local and state police "for their tireless commitment and diligent, painstaking work that have led to these arrests."

"Although we are relieved that the wait for these charges is over, for us there is no sense of closure. Nothing can bring Jennifer back. We miss her every day and will forever mourn her loss," the family said. "We believe the arrest warrants will speak for themselves, and we ask that you please respect our privacy during this time."

Fotis and Troconis were previously arrested on charges of evidence tampering and hindering prosecution. Both pleaded not guilty.

On Tuesday morning, New Canaan Police tweeted, “Justice!” in reaction to news of the new charges.

Fotis has maintained his innocence since Jennifer was reported missing. However, throughout 2019, evidence pointing to a possible murder, including an article of clothing stained with Jennifer’s blood, continued to turn up in and around Fotis’ home.

Police previously alleged Fotis and his girlfriend were seen dumping garbage bags dropping off several trash bags containing items that were found to be stained with Jennifer’s blood.

In addition to the murder trial, Fotis is also being sued by Jennifer’s mother, Gloria Farber, who claims he owes her about $3 million in unpaid loans.

Farber currently has custody of the couple’s five children, who rang in age from 8 to 13 years old.
