NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- An Upper Manhattan karate instructor stood accused Sunday of sexually abusing five female students.

Police alleged Hector Bencosme, 57, sexually abused five female students between the ages of 10 and 14 at his karate studio on Post Avenue in Inwood.

Over the last few months, Bencosme allegedly evaluated the girls’ bodies and touched them inappropriately – sometimes claiming they needed to lose weight, police said.

Bencosme allegedly photographed the girls topless in some instances, and rubbed his genitals on a victim on one occasion, police said.

Among the charges issued against Bencosme were aggravated and criminal sexual abuse, acting in a manner injurious to a child, possession of child pornography, unlawful dealing with a child, and sexual contact with a child under 17, police said.

The NYPD Manhattan Special Victims Unit is investigating.
