NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Disgraced lawyer Michael Avenatti has been transferred to the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan and is being held in the same cell that was once occupied by Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

Attorney Scott Srebnick told a federal judge on Sunday that Stormy Daniels’ former lawyer needs to be transferred from solitary confinement in New York City back to the general population in a California federal lockup.

Srebnick says Avenatti is currently on a floor that houses individuals charged with terrorism, where the temperatures are in the 40s and his conditions prevent him from preparing for his upcoming trial.

Avenatti was arrested last week after prosecutors said he violated his bail conditions.

The former lawyer is now being held without bail on charges that he attempted to extort Nike for more than $20 million.
